The ECR 2025 took place in Vienna, Austria, from February 26 to March 2, welcoming an impressive 20.522 participants from 131 countries. Held under the visionary theme “Planet Radiology” this year’s congress delved into the crucial intersection of radiology, sustainability, and global healthcare equity. With a strong focus on innovation, knowledge sharing, and collaboration, ECR 2025 reflected the growing commitment of the global radiological community to building a more sustainable and inclusive future.

The scientific program of the congress featured a range of challenging and thought-provoking sessions dedicated to GU imaging.

The ESUR Prostate MRI examination (2nd edition) was organized on the occasion of ECR 2025. The ESUR Members’ Dinner was held at Aux Gazelles, on Thursday, February 27, 2025. More than 100 ESUR members gathered for a delightful evening filled with delicious food, fine drinks, and warm, engaging company. The event provided a wonderful opportunity for colleagues to connect, share conversations, and enjoy a relaxed and convivial atmosphere.

The ESUR Board is delighted to share the exciting news that two of our esteemed members, Professor Rosemarie Forstner and Professor Harriet Thoeny, have been honoured as Gold Medal recipients at ECR 2025.

This prestigious recognition reflects their outstanding contributions to the field of radiology, their dedication to academic excellence, and their continued commitment to advancing urogenital imaging.

On behalf of the entire ESUR community, we extend our warmest congratulations to Professor Forstner and Professor Thoeny on this well-deserved achievement. We are proud to have such distinguished colleagues among our ranks.

The next ECR will take place in Vienna, Austria, from March 4–8, 2026, under the esteemed presidency of Professor Minerva Baker. The theme of ECR 2026, “Rays of Knowledge,” captures the very essence of the congress — a celebration of education at the heart of radiology.

As a Greek, I’m truly fascinated by the official congress poster! The poster depicts Athena, the ancient Greek goddess associated with wisdom, knowledge, and learning, holding an owl—an enduring emblem of insight and perceptual clarity. This classical iconography serves as a metaphor for the radiologist’s specialized expertise in discerning anatomical and pathological subtleties that elude the untrained observer. By drawing upon symbolic and historical representations of intellectual acuity, the poster underscores the cognitive and interpretive dimensions central to radiological practice.

The 31st European Symposium on Urogenital Radiology will be held from September 25–28, 2025, in the vibrant city of Stockholm, Sweden, under the leadership of Professor Per Liss. This year's symposium will focus on the theme “Precision Urogenital Imaging Today and Tomorrow”, highlighting cutting-edge advancements and future directions in the field.

The 32nd European Symposium on Urogenital Radiology will take place from September 24–27, 2026, in Paris, France, under the presidency of Professor Marie-France Belin.

The 33rd European Symposium on Urogenital Radiology will be held in 2027 in Valencia, Spain, and will be organized by Professor Milagros Otero-García.

The 2nd ESUR Female Pelvis Imaging Course was organized in Rome, Italy, on April 11-12, 2025, by Professor Lucia Mangarano. The course was highly appreciated by 365 attendees from 50 countries, offering a comprehensive, engaging, and practical exploration of modern female pelvic imaging. The scientific program featured concise, targeted lectures, complemented by hands-on workshops and interactive learning sessions. The course offered a valuable opportunity for exchange between faculty and participants, and successfully equipped attendees with the knowledge and skills necessary to excel in this specialized scientific field.

The 4th Scrotal and Penile Imaging Course was organized in Istanbul, Turkey, on April 24-25, 2025, under the presidency of Professor Mustafa Secil. The course was attended by 100 participants representing 27 countries, and comprehensively addressed all aspects of current imaging techniques and technologies pertinent to the specific topic. The program featured lectures delivered by renowned experts, complemented by interactive case discussions.

The next Scrotal and Penile Imaging Course will be held in Poland, on 2027.

The 13th ESUR MRI Prostate Teaching Course was held from June 12–14, 2025, in Cambridge, United Kingdom, under the presidency of Dr. Tristan Barrett and Professor Francesco Giganti. This year’s course focused on the latest developments and advancements in prostate imaging, complemented by a range of hands-on workshops that provided practical learning experiences for attendees. Key topics included AI, focal therapies, prostate cancer screening, active surveillance, and image quality and accreditation. The event was a resounding success, attracting over 245 participants from 35 countries, reflecting its growing international impact and educational value.

The 14th ESUR MRI Prostate Teaching Course will be held in Krakov, Poland from May 14-16, 2026, under the chair of Dr. Hanna Falinska.

Professor Ole Graumann and Professor Refky Nicola are serving as the Guest Editors for the special edition of the Abdominal Radiology journal, entitled "Advanced Imaging in Renal Cell Carcinoma (RCC)”.
This special collection highlights the latest advances in imaging for renal cell carcinoma covering state-of-the-art CT, MRI, ultrasound, and emerging technologies such as dual-energy and photon-counting CT. It explores imaging’s expanding role in tumor characterization, staging, surgical planning, treatment response assessment, and post-treatment surveillance. Contributions will also address biopsy techniques, radiomics, and the impact of artificial intelligence.

The mission of European Radiology Abdomen is to promote high-quality research and support scientific advancement and education by publishing peer-reviewed articles focused on gastrointestinal, abdominal, and urogenital radiology.
Through this collaboration, ESR, ESGAR, and ESUR aim to provide a dedicated platform for researchers, clinicians, and educators to share their work, exchange knowledge, and foster innovation in these subspecialties of radiology.
