"Course Highlights"
___________
|
| |
| |
New Format
The course organizers implemented a novel approach, focusing on short, impactful presentations that delivered key information efficiently. This format allowed for more time to be dedicated to hands-on, interactive workshops, which were a cornerstone of the event’s success.
Interactive Workshops
A significant portion of the course was devoted to interactive workshops, enabling participants to apply their knowledge in practical settings. These sessions likely covered various aspects of prostate MRI interpretation, including: PI-RADS scoring; case-based and MDT discussions; workstation-based image analysis; and, AI applications in prostate imaging.
Expert-Led Sessions
The course featured short, theme-focused presentations and workshops led by international experts in the field of prostate imaging. This provided attendees with access to cutting-edge knowledge and best practices from leaders in the discipline.
Diverse Participant Base
With over 325 attendees, the course attracted a wide range of professionals involved in prostate imaging, including radiologists, urologists, and other specialists. This diverse group fostered rich discussions and networking opportunities. |

"Impact and Outcomes"
___________
|
| |
| |
The success of this course demonstrates the growing importance of specialized training in prostate MRI. As prostate imaging techniques continue to evolve, particularly with the integration of AI, such courses play a crucial role in ensuring that healthcare professionals remain at the forefront of diagnostic capabilities.
The high attendance and positive reception of the new format suggest that future ESUR Prostate Imaging Teaching Courses will likely continue to emphasize interactive learning and practical application of knowledge. This approach aligns with research showing that dedicated teaching courses can significantly improve clinicians’ theoretical knowledge and practical skills in prostate MRI interpretation.

The European Society of Urogenital Radiology has been working hard on an ESUR Prostate MRI Examination for board-certified radiologists who pursue an official acknowledgment for their skills in acquiring and reporting prostate MRI. This is a very important capstone in the pursuit of high-quality prostate MRI throughout Europe, following the publication of European standardization papers (PI-RADS, PI-RR, PRECISE) and quality papers (PI-QUAL), organization of educational activities such as the ESUR MRI Prostate Course and multiple national and local hands-on teaching activities. We believe that a European Certification in Prostate MRI can and will become a gold standard for both European and national certification initiatives.
The Examination is compiled by European experts in the field (ESUR Examination Committee currently consisting of Patrick Asbach, Tristan Barrett, Bernd Hamm, Vibeke Løgager, Valeria Panebianco, Raphaële Renard-Penna, Luca Russo, and Geert Villeirs) and will be hosted on the European Board of Radiology (EBR)-platform, similar to the EDiR-exam. Furthermore, we are proud that the European Certification in Prostate MRI has recently been endorsed by the European Society of Radiology.
A first edition of the examination has been scheduled during our Annual ESUR Symposium in Lisbon (September 19, 2024, 14.00-18.00h) and subsequent editions will be organized twice a year.
Further information can be found on the following link: https://www.esur.org/european-certification-in-prostate-mri/
With this quality visualization initiative, ESUR once again strives to take further steps in the delivery of high-quality prostate MRI throughout Europe.
